Overall Impression:

This is part 2 of our Etihad’s first-class trip to Paris. We had an excellent flight from Male and were even surprised to have a limo and chauffeur waiting for us at the tarmac. The best is yet to come as we fly Etihad’s First-Class Apartment on the Airbus A380 from Abu Dhabi to Paris (CDG).

What I liked:

The seats – Etihad’s first-class Apartments on the Airbus A380 is among the most spacious seats in the sky. The seat and bed were wide, plush, and very comfortable for sitting, lounging, and sleeping. The upholstery of the seats also felt very luxurious as they are Poltrona Frau Leather.

The onboard service – Tim, our in-flight chef delivered superb service. He and the rest of the flight attendants working first class were proactive, charming, and quick to respond to our needs during the flight. Pre-departure beverage service was prompt. Turndown service was proactively offered, and the crew always checked-in to see if we needed anything.

The Food – The in-flight catering on this flight was just awesome! I love how Etihad does their beverage service on a silver tray. The meals were also scrumptious on this flight. The caviar course was amazing and complete with the usual fixes. The steak I ordered was perfectly cooked and tasted great! Tim even asked me if I wanted some caviar for my over easy eggs — and he put 2 servings of caviar on them! The fried eggs were nicely cooked and the side dishes were also excellent!

The IFE – Etihad’s eBOX entertainment system was intuitive, responsive, and offers plenty of movie, TV, music, games, and other content to keep you busy during the flight. In-flight WIFI was also available on this flight, which was free for First Class passengers.

The onboard shower – Having a nice hot shower at 30,000 feet was such a unique experience. Both the shower suite, and first-class lavatory were kept spotlessly clean and constantly stocked by the crew during the flight.

Amenities – I love Etihad’s First-Class amenity kit. The leather pouch and the Acqua di Parma toiletries were very luxurious. I also love Etihad’s First-Class pajamas and slippers (which I saved for later use). The onboard minibar was also a very cool feature of the suite.

The Etihad First Class Lounge & Spa in Abu Dhabi – The lounge in Abu Dhabi is a bit compact compared to their other Gulf competitors, but we had a wonderful time. The lounge staff were very friendly and offered to show us around the lounge. Though we did not have enough time to enjoy all the lounge, amenities, we had an excellent made to order meal at the dining area before the flight.

What I didn’t like:

The cabin temperature – The cabin temperature was a bit warm for me, and I ended up waking up sweaty.

The noise canceling headphones – I wish Etihad would use a higher quality noise canceling headphones. Heck, even American uses Bose and B&O is business class.

It was OK…I guess:

The onboard bar – Etihad’s first and business class bar/common area behind first class was nice, but the seating was limited and not nearly as open and inviting as Qatar’s bar on their Airbus A380.

Parting Words:

Etihad offers a solid First-Class product, despite my very minor complaints. The amount of space and privacy you get onboard is just unreal (probably even better for Residence passengers). The service and food for this short-ish 7-hour flight to Paris were also excellent. This was truly a memorable experience for us, and we look forward to the day we get to fly on one of these apartments again.
