Review: Qatar Airways Business Class Airbus A350-900 XWB Doha to Philadelphia

Overall Impression:

Qatar Airways’ business class on their Airbus A350-900 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner is a solid business class product. Business class is laid out in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration. The seats are spacious, but lacks the privacy of a sliding door compared to Qatar’s new QSuite business class product. Still the seat is very comfortable for both lounging and sleeping during the 12.5 flight from Doha to Philadelphia. The food and catering on this flight were excellent. Top that with the already amazing Qatar Airways service and we’ve got another winning flight.

What I liked:

The airplane – We’ve flown on Qatar’s A350-900 before and we still love it. Large windows with electronic blackout shades, spacious cabin with high ceiling, and the best humidity/cabin pressure of any next generation aircraft available is a sure win.

The onboard service – The onboard service was efficient, engaging, yet not overly intrusive. The crew was charming, attentive addressed us by name during the flight. Pre-departure beverage service was offered along with plenty of hot towels during the flight.

The food – Qatar offers a pretty large selection of wine and spirits, as well as other non-alcoholic beverages. Qatar offers a dine on demand service where you can order any dish from their menu at any time. All the dishes I ordered were delicious and beautifully presented.

The IFE – This plane uses the Oryx One Entertainment system and it offers an array of new and classic movies, TV programs, music, and games. The Airbus A350 also has an impressive outside camera, but sadly the tail camera was not working on this flight.

What I didn’t like:

The Lounge – The Al Mourjan Business Lounge used to be my favorite Oneworld Lounge. The lounge is huge and used to offer a sit down restaurant. Unfortunately, I feel as if things are going a bit downhill lately. I had to wait over an hour for a shower and the food selections are not quite what it used to be.

It was OK…I guess:

The seats – Qatar is slowly retrofitting some of their airbus A350-900s with the new Qsuite product. These seats are fine, but in my opinion the QSuite product is far more superior.
