Property: Son Matias Beach Hotel, Palmanova, Mallorca, Spain
Room Type: Top Floor (9th Fl) Junior Suite
Date of Stay: August 2021
We stayed at the Son Matias Beach Hotel for 3 nights in August 2021 and totally enjoyed our stay. This was our first time in Mallorca, and we really did not know what to expect, but we are so glad we picked this hotel. The property is is rated as a 4-star hotel and is situated in Palmanova, which is about 20 minutes from downtown Palma. The location is on the quieter side of the island, but there were an abundance of shops and restaurants within a few minutes walking distance from the hotel. San Matias Beach is also just steps away from the hotel, which was a nice plus! Overall we really liked this hotel and would not hesitate to go back.

What I liked:
Good value – Son Matias Beach Hotel offers great value for the price. Transfer from PMI airport was a quick 20-minute taxi ride. The room wasn’t the biggest or swankiest, but it was clean and offered an amazing view. The service was also very good. The front desk staff Jose and Keith attended to all our needs and requests during our stay.
The outdoor space – 2 sliding doors opened our Junior Suite to the outside deck, which had an amazing view of the Mediterranean sea. The patio had 2 loungers, a pair of chairs and a small table.
COVID-19 Precautions – We felt safe during our stay, as all guests are briefed by the front desk staff during check-in on social distancing and mask-wearing requirements by the hotel.
What I didn’t like:
Rooms looked dated – Our room was a good size, and was comfortable, but felt rather dated. Some of the linen and furnishings felt a bit cheap for a 4-star rated hotel, but was very clean and well-maintained.
It was OK, I guess…
The food – We had a half-board package, which included breakfast and dinner. I really wasn’t expecting much, but the food quality was actually pretty good. The selection was decent during breakfast and dinner. The only thing I would suggest is there should be some variation in the breakfast offering. It was the same options everyday. Dinner was OK, and the selection changed every night.
